Liberation of the Intellect and Freedom of Expression

(2/14/92)

"Freedom of expression does not mean the freedom to blurt out any form of self-expression regardless of the injury to others.  Freedom of expression means the opportunity to bring forth one's own feelings, thoughts and ideas in an effort to contribute to the welfare of others.  This should never be suppressed.  You may or may not agree with the thoughts of another, but you should listen respectfully as long as the intent of the person is benign.  On the other hand, if a person is having ill intentions towards others, they intend harm or have no care for the harm they cause, then their expression must be curbed.  So freedom of expression means freedom to give forth for the welfare of others.  Even if a person's philosophy is defective, if their intention is the good of others, their expression must be respectfully heard.

"Now liberation of the intellect means the all around development in the psychic sphere which leads to liberation from psychic bonds.  If the intellect of a person is truly liberated, they are one with Parama Purus'a.  Their intellect takes His perspective.  They no longer hold to dogmas.  They are free from the eight fetters and the six bonds of the psyche.  For them, this universe is the body of the Supreme Lord.  Even a rock is His very form.  How can one be cruel or disrespectful to the very Lord?  The nature of living beings is understood.  There is no geo-sentiment and no socio-sentiment.  Every living being is respected.  Intellect becomes devoid of dogmas and fetters.  This is liberation of the intellect.

"Now freedom of expression is a basic human right.  When the intellect of a person is freed from bondage due to the influence of ideation upon the Supreme, then their expression will be free from all narrow thinking.  Their expression will be sublime.  They will not say that this group is great and this one we must destroy.  They will say, 'Oh Lord, you are everywhere.  I cannot move my eyes but I see you.  What to do?  You are everywhere.  Your colors fill my mind.'  Thinking like this, intellect is free of dogmas.  Expression is free of narrow habits.  Mind becomes the servant of the Supreme Expression.  This freedom is true freedom.  That is all."
