Namaskar to All:
January 23: I Left morning from Davao to Cebu about an hour plane ride, then went directly to the port to catch the cebu-Ormoc fast track boat around 3 hours..and catch the 11:00 am ride but waited for one hour because of the weather condition, so strong and superwaves, but anyhow we left at 12:00 NN. But still the weather condition is not good, as if I am riding in a roller coaster..as if the boat is flying .. one passenger mother was already crying carrying his son...many passengers went dizzy. I was just calm but when we are already in the open sea, facing the ocean, I am bit nervous already since the boat was also moving sideways, and praying that we can still maintain the balance... But by Baba's grace I finally reached my destination - Ormoc.
I felt relived that our contact person., Bro. Jairaj fetched me, and went directly to the fishing village, since many fishermen were waiting for me for long hours, since I told Bro. Jairaj to gather the fishermen. Had a meeting immediately, (though I was feeling dizzy because of my 2 hours roller coaster ride in the open sea). We come up with an agreement of the formation of the association of fishermen which will be registered soon in DOLE. There were still series of many meetings and discussion with them on different days since I did a five day immersion there... that sometime we finished at midnight.. Finally they were able to formed and named it" NAGKAHIUSANG MANANAGAT SA BARANGAY NAUNGAN' which means " The United Fishermen of Barangay Naungan". Barangay is a small unit of area or locality manage by barangay official. They have now 90 members.
January 24 - I went to see the officer of Local Government incharge in Fishery Department and find possible partnership to assist with our project. Then he referred me to see the BFAR _Burea of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources -... somehow I managed to go there quite a farflung area, it was good that I was accompanied by Thelma, the treasurer of Linao Fishermen Association. But before going to see the officers of LGU and government offices, went first to see another barangay called Brgy Linao where we have given 5 boats (during Dada Adhya's relief work in Dec.)... one banca need to finished. I was accompanied by Conrado Beranio the former president of the Linao Fishermen Association. This assocation was active before since they also recieved funding from CIDA, a canadian agency, but now they have to reorganized again... so I am waiting for the new set up of officers and reactivation of members for the new "Sail of Hope project" that they will be receiving.
Around 4pm am back to Brgy Naungan where I stayed in a fishermen's house. (with Bro. Jairaj whose father is a strong fishermen leader , of Linao Mr, conrado Beranio) I was very blessed I was adopted by this wonderful family... so there were Young people who assisted me with other acitivity, the mass feeding for young kids aged 0-12... They were the one who arranged the preparation of bread sandwiches and juices and which I gave them a very minimal amount so the children would also be benefitted and one way of assessing the children's condition in the fishing village. Together with the young volunteers, we have feed 400 children and few adults.
This young volunteers also was formed into "Quinto Limbo Seva Youth Club, at the time where only 11 members, but through their text messages, they are now in growing numbers. (Quinto Limbo was the old name of this place, they said that this island before was quite mysterious, that time nobody was living - it was quite a mystical name). They are a mixed up of out of school youth and some are still studying... The outschool youth aged 14 up are also doing fishing as their livelihood. To hear their individual stories, my report would be not finished'. A livelihood project would also be given to them still in line with the Sail of Hope Project"
I am still finding sponsor for this project: " A School Boat" - they will managed this project.. since I found out that there is only one boat that ferry the elementary, high school students plus working people to the other side of the river . (Brgy Naungan became isolated because of the river that separates them from Brgy Linao where most of the students goes there).
To be continued.
