Microvita and the Transmutation of Matter

This morning, I will speak on the topic of microvita.

You know, these tiny particles, these small particles of life are developed in the introversial phase of evolution. They are a part and parcel of the development of living substance and individual mental expression.

Now, these very small particles of life, of living substance, are the catalyst for subatomic alterations which allow for the transmutation of energy from matter into mind stuff. Do you know it is the addition of these very subtle elements which allows for the transformation of material substance into mental substance. Thus mind is developed through this alchemical process.

Now, microvita are not developed in the extroversial phase of evolution. They do not come into being until matter is existing. Then, when there is matter, there is the potentiality for the development of mind from matter. Matter has developed out of Cosmic Mind. Cosmic Mind has been transmuted through the extroversial phase of evolution to matter. So mind has become matter. Now, again, in the introversial phase of evolution, matter is transmuted into mind. When this occurs there is the development of individual mental structures. These individualized mental structures then develop and develop until they have all of the characteristics of the original mental structure, the Cosmic Mind. When this happens, then the individual mental structure may again resume its identification with its parental structure which is the Cosmic Mind.

So you see, in this way, evolution comes full cycle. So there are two phases to evolution. The first phase is extroversial development, that is development from Cosmic Mind into the material universe. It is the formation and development of the material universe. Then when this material universe is fully developed and matter is fully condensed, there comes a kind of alchemical process in which the matter once again becomes transmuted into mind stuff. Then over time as this mental development continues in the introversial phase of evolution it becomes the same as the Cosmic Mind from which it originally evolved. Then it becomes what? That from whence it came and eventually this cycle goes around again. Like this, the play of creation goes on and on.

Now, it can be said that evolution is a dynamic process. There are four fundamental operative principles on which the process of evolution depends. The first principal is that this universe is always changing. There is movement. Movement is the very primary, fundamental, underlying basis of evolution. Without movement there cannot be change and without change there cannot be forward progression, therefore there would be no evolution. Movement or the capacity for movement is the fundamental dynamic underlying evolution. So, first there is movement, from movement there comes change. This universe is always changing, everything is changing, everything is in motion. Nothing is static, nothing is permanent except Parama Parus'a. So, first of all, there is the fact that everything is in motion.

Secondly, there is the development of matter from mind and then again mind from matter. There is the play of opposites. There is the pull of opposites like two poles, matter and mind. Like two poles they are pulling one way, then the other, then one way, then the other, like magnetic poles. So in evolution, there is not only the fundamental principle of motion, but there is the attraction of opposites. And from this you have the introversial and the extroversial pulls of the evolutionary flow. There must be some force which is pulling in a particular direction. You see, there is motion, but if there is no directing force, that motion is simply going nowhere, going here, going there. But evolution is not a random process. The introversial and the extroversial forces, the forces which pull towards and which push away, are the momentum which propels the evolutionary process in a particular pattern. So there is the characteristic of motion, then there is the play of duality, the play of opposites. Then there are those forces which attract and repel making, together, the course of evolution.

And there is a fourth operative principle which is essential also if this process is to exist in a stable fashion. And that is the capacity to transmute one substance into another. Now, you may have motion but if you do not have this quality, there will be no fundamental change. So there must be the capacity for transmutation, the ability to alter the fundamental qualities and characteristics of a substance. So that mind may be attracted through the three gunas, through the varying pulls and pushes of the sa'ttvika, the mutative or ra'jasika and the static or ta'masika qualities to form itself into the five fundamental factors and become crudified, the influence of the three gunas on the Cosmic Mind creates a capacity for the transmutation of one substance into another. So, due to the gunas, the sa'ttvika, the mutative or ra'jasika, and the static or ta'masika principles, and depending on the degree of exertion of each of these forces, the mind stuff will become more and more transmuted. So it becomes transmuted from pure mind to etheric principle to aerial factor to the fire element and then to liquid and finally to the solid factor. So as this transmutation occurs, there is an adjustment in these three operative principles until finally the material substance, the solid factor is developed. So mind stuff is transmuted. This is the fourth essential operative principle involved in the evolutionary process.

When the mind stuff is transmuted through the dominance of the static or ta'masika quality into material substance, it appears to be something quite different from when it started, but it is the same. And out of this hard surfaced material substance may come more and more subtle substance. When you burn the wood, the fire will come from the wood, will it not? So, the mind stuff which is locked in the material substance, in the solid factor, will get transmuted into the fire element and it will appear to be energy. It will release heat, it will release light, it will appear to release energy, but it may be transmuted even further so that there is more dominance of, not the ra'jasika quality but, the sa'ttvika quality and then once again it becomes aerial or etheric and eventually it becomes mental stuff once again.

These changes occur according to specific operative codes. They are not random, they are not disorganized, it is a very orderly universe and these things happen according to specific patterns. So, there are four basic operative principles that are involved in the evolutionary process. One is the law of motion, that all things are in motion. Secondly, there is the play of opposites, the development of duality. Thirdly, there is the introversial and extroversial pulls of the polar opposites. And fourthly, there is the capacity for transmutation through the application of the three gunas. These are the fundamental principles which enable evolution to progress in an orderly fashion.

When mind stuff is transmuted into matter there is a growing and growing dominance of the static principle. Now, when the mental material is once again released from the frozen quality of the solid factor, it may be released in several stages. It may become liquid factor as the ice turns to the water, as the rock may be melted in the high heat into molten lava, it may become fire factor as the wood is transmuted into fire, into light and heat, this is energy as it is commonly called. From this type of transmutation comes electrical energy, atomic energy, all types of energies. It is a stage in the introversial phase. But when the matter is transmuted even further, it becomes not energy, but it becomes even more subtle. And out of that, mind is developed.

So what happens is that the bondages of the dominant factor, the static principle, which keep the mind stuff bound tightly, condensed into matter, these bondages begin to break apart and the mental stuff begins to expand. The first expansion would be liquid, second expansion would be energies, third expansion goes into etheric and finally mental stuff. So, as it expands, first there is dominance of ta'masika, then dominance of ra'jasika principle and then mind is again created.

Now, life force, what is life force? What happens when something becomes living rather than inert? Cosmic Mind, in which this entire universe exists, is a living substance so that even the rock, though it does not have the active principles of individual mind, is in fact composed of Cosmic Mind and living substance. But the basic qualities and characteristics are not the same as the living substance which is released from matter and becomes unit mind.

Now, for mind to develop out of matter, there must be the transmutation of the static principle, of the ra'jasika principle and the dominance of the sentient principle, the life force. You see, in the sentient principle there is the living force, the life force, it is sentience, life. So when this factor dominates, life force becomes prominent and a specific alchemical process occurs. And what is that process? It is the introduction of microvita into the atomic structures existing in the material world. Now this microvita create a chain reaction causing the development of mental stuff from matter. This releases not only energy, but also mind itself becomes freed from the bondage of matter. The bondages of ta'maguna are loosened and the energy that is released loosens even further those bondages until sentience occurs. When there is sentience, there is the release of mind, of mental stuff. Now, that mental stuff, once it is released, begins to have identity. There is the development of "I" feeling, "I exist". The sense of existence comes with the development of mind.

Now, the mind has been formed out of the atomic structure so it is attached to the material object. When that material object transforms, the mind stuff does not cease to exist but it also will transform. That is, it will attach itself to another living object which may enhance its existence. So life is developed and mind is developed from the material substance.

One may ask, where do microvita come from? It may be said they are also developed in the introversial phase. When the sentient principle becomes activated, the microvita are formed. Now, it is a fact that the Cosmic Mind utilizes the subtle microvita for its mental emanations. So they are emanated through the satvic or sentient principle. They are the fundamental expressions of the life force. When the sentient principle is dominant, they will be present. So you see, these microvita are a part and parcel of the evolution of mind from material substance. They are also the media for the direct expressions of Cosmic Mind in the manifest universe. They are carried by the sattvic or sentient principle in the transmutative process of evolution.

So when the sentient principle fully dominates, microvita will be present. There will be life force. It may express in individual human or other individual mental expressions or it may express directly in the form of Cosmic Mind. But when the sentient principle dominates, this life force will be there, it will be present. This is a part and parcel of the operative condition of the manifest universe. So where there are living beings, there will be microvita, and where there are microvita, there will be the existence of life, living substance, sentience. Life, living substance, sentience may take many forms. It need not be associated with material objects, it need not have individual identity. Cosmic Mind is sentient. And consciousness itself, the very substance from which the mental stuff and the material stuff is composed, that consciousness is sentience itself masked to be all of these different expressions. First it appears to be mind, then it appears to be material substance. Then again it appears to be mind, but all along what has it been? It is consciousness, appearing to be all of these things. Do you understand?

Consciousness cannot be confined or defined by any temporal movements within the evolutionary process. Consciousness was, is, and will be; pristine and pure, ever whole, ever self resplendent. Though so many changes occur, as movement is the very operative dynamic of evolution, and consciousness appears to change, the reality is that it is changeless, it undergoes no alteration. All of this is the play of the illusionary forces. It exists, evolution exists, but at the same time, nothing changes. Consciousness is, as it was and shall ever be, immutable, unchanging, whole, and ever self resplendent. It only appears to undergo changes. In reality, it is changeless.

So, take this opportunity to recognize that which is constant within the changing universe, that which is immutable, that which will not change but will remain ever steady. Identify yourself with that changeless consciousness from which this entire creation has sprung and in which it has its existence.
