1.4.3 spiritual liberation

QUESTIONS ON PHILOSOPHY AND SCIENCE

Sept. 26,1993.

Q:In Ananda Marga philosophy, liberation occurs as a result of exhaustion of samskaras. The Supreme Command seems to express that liberation in this lifetime is guaranteed by performing meditation twice a day regularly. How can this apparent contradiction be reconciled?

Moks'a comes when there is absolute exhaustion of samskaras. Mukti comes when individuality is transcended and the mind of the individual becomes merged in the Cosmic mental projection. No sense of individuality remain, yet there is identification with attributional expression. When this identification ceases then Moks'a is attained. In Ananda Marga philosophy it is said: that Mukti is the cessation of identification with individual samskara, all reactive momenta in the psychic sphere are dissolved and the mind becomes one with the Cosmic mental projection. There is no little I, no little person to say: I want this or that, instead "I" feeling is merged with the Cosmic "I" Brahma alone expresses. Body may be there, may not be there, it makes no difference.

When a person does sadhana twice a day invariably, the mind becomes fixed on the Supreme. When such an effort is made by a sincere sadhaka, placing his welfare in the hands of Parama Purusa, should that Entity ignore him at the time of his final physical departure? At that time mind goes to that with which it is most identified. If that identification is with name, fame, prestige, power or any worldly desire, mind is again drawn to the situation in which that desire may be expressed. Yet if sadhana is done sincerely, if the sadhaka has surrendered himself/herself to Parama Purusa, then there will be attraction to Supreme. Individual desires will be less and attraction more. Thus that Entity will grab hold of that mind at this most critical moment and bring it to Him like a babe snatched from the river to the arms of its mother. That soul will be drawn from the river of samskaric movements to the effulgent Blessedness of Parama Purusa. All lesser desires will get burnt by the heat of His radiance and that person, that sincere sadhaka will attain union with that most effulgent Entity.

But the choice to take human form for the betterment of society remains. Not all who attain this will be without rebirths, but they will not take lesser birth, they will only return in atmospheres suitable to spiritual realization. Lesser desires will not dominate them, and if by the Grace of Parama Purusa they should come to that most pure state, Moks'a may come to them. So there is no contradiction in this. The web of the mind of one who has developed sincere ideation upon the Supreme may be dissolved at the juncture between this world and further expression. I am not saying that simple mindless sadhana will bring this about. A sadhaka must be sincere and they must have developed a longing for their Supreme Father. Then His Grace can be given, and the remaining samskaras washed away by His Divine Grace. Mukti is not attained by ritual or mindless adherence to discipline, there must be sincere longing in the heart of a sadhaka.

Do your sadhana regularly and surely this longing will come. When the tree is watered, it grows. Parama Purusa cannot help but love His sons and daughters. If they call to Him, what is He to do? He must come to them. He must take them in His arms, be they naughty or nice, virtuous or sinful, still they are His own. If they reach for Him, He will reach also for them.

So, never be afraid that your sins are inexhaustible. No human being can unweave the never-ending web of samskaric entanglement alone. It is only by the Grace of that Brahmic Guru that this is ever done. Guru is Brahma, the creator of this manifested Universe. He is also the sustainer. And it is none other than Guru who destroys the darkness and dissolves illusion, leaving only effulgence.

I think it is answered.
