Friday Night Satsaunga

Parama Purusha and His creation

February 2, 1996

Tonight I will speak about the relationship between Parama Purusha and the unit entities. You know that Parama Purusha is omnipresent and omnipotent. He is everywhere at all times. That Supreme consciousness is in every corner of the universe. He is the witnessing entity of every single action that occurs and He is the witness of all events in this manifest universe. Nothing exists which He does not witness. So nothing can be hidden from Parama Purusha. You may think you have a private life, but to Him, everything is known. There is nothing that He is not witnessed to in this expressed universe, for without His witnesship it would cease to exist. So all of existence must have a witnessing entity and that witnessing entity is Parama Purusha, the supreme awareness, He is the witness of all.

Now the unit entity, the individual, has a very small sphere of experience in which they exist and express. In that small sphere of experience there are the great knowers of their reality. Unit entity knows its own body, own mind, own realm of experience, but the unit entity does not know the experience of the other unit entities. They only know their own experience, but Parama Purusha knows the experience of everyone. Everyone is known to Him, there are non that are unknown and there are no secrets which can be hidden. So you see He is thus called the witnessing entity or He is the great witness of all. The individual or unit beings have only one direction which they think at one time, a person may think, I am hungry so I will eat. But Parama Purusha will think in many direction at one time. At the same moment He is directing Himself into every aspect of this manifest universe, into every molecule of existence and He is watching, observing and following the movement of each and every atom of this expressed universe. That is why it is said that He is omnidirectional, omnipresent and it is also said that He is omnipotent.

Because Parama Purusha can do anything, except two things: He cannot create another Parama Purusha and He cannot hate anybody. Do you know why He cannot hate anybody? It is because He is so intimately connected to each and every person. Each and every person is His own child. He is the progenitor of this entire manifest universe and He is the witness of all, so that everyone comes within His manifest sphere and witnessing existence of all of these created beings who have their existence within Him, He cannot hate any of them for good or bad, they are His children. He loves them all, each and everyone. And He cannot create another Parama Purusha, He cannot create a second supreme consciousness because He is one and all lies within Him. So there is no outside to create a second. All is within, within His own awareness.

The living beings, they are multidirectional, they are always thinking of so many things with so many different interests, so many different desires. They want to go here, they want to go there, they like to own this, they like to have this particular thing, they want to express themselves in this way, there are so many desires that move the human mind in so many different directions. So this human mind has many directions. But Parama Purusha has only one direction, only one desire and that is to bring all of the living beings into Himself. His desire is to bring all of the living beings within Himself. So He is known as Krishna. The meaning of Krishna is the all attracting entity. So Parama Purusha is Krishna, He is the all attracting entity, the one who gathers all unto Himself. And His greatest desire is to bring the living beings home, to make them self aware, to make them aware of their union with Him. That is His singular desire. So He has one purpose, where as the created beings have many purposes and He has the capacity to hold infinite number of thoughts and experiences within His awareness, where as the living beings most generally can hold only one, perhaps two and then they are quite overwhelmed. So these are the differences between Parama Purusha and the created beings.

Do you have any questions tonight?

Nick: Yes. I wonder if you could explain the difference between the unit entities experience of suffering and Parama Purusha's experience of that suffering?

Baba: This is a very good question. You see, for Parama Purusha the entire universe is His internal mental projection, it is the projection of His mind and all that occurs in it is the psychic projection. For the unit entities it appears that what occurs around them is external to themselves, because it is outside of this sphere of their personal knowledge and so they feel it is external and being external it occurs outside of the realm of their capacity to change in many cases. So the human beings often feel that they are pushed and pulled by the external environment and so there may be joy at one stage and they may be so delighted that things are going their way, they may ride the wave, but then again it will happen to the same person that the time will come when all goes wrong, when weel and woe come to them and pain and suffering are their lots.

To Parama Purusha, both of these experiences are the same, the chains of silver and chains of gold, but chains neverless. For each is the result of desire, each is the result of the running after happiness in the mundane sphere, it is the result of placing the value of one's existence on material objects. So if one will be so happy, if so many nice things happen in the life, if the body is well, if so many good things come, if one has a good salary, if one has nice home and there are so many criteria to be met to have a nice life. It is bound to happen that perhaps a nice life is there for a while but then, all of those desires that have been fulfilled will again find, they will not be permanently satisfied, they will eat the mind and again as they are craving outward, outward, then ultimately, it will turn around and there will be suffering. For every joy there is pain, for every pain there is joy. It is an endless cycle, it is a chain, because it is the nature of desire and the result of desire. When one desires and attaches one's happiness to gain in the mundane world, one is bound to fall to suffering, for this mundane world is a passing phase, a passing ever changing experience. Today is one thing, tomorrow another and what you gain today you will lose tomorrow, what you lose you will again gain and it goes on and on. It is the nature of opposites.

So the living being who seeks their happiness in these mundane expressions will also find the poison which lies in them. It is better to see that what you love and what you desire deeply, truly in all that you seek is your own essence, is that deep love and connection which is beyond any form, which is timeless, for all which is associated with form, will change, will dye, will decay, will be lost. The only thing that will last is love, for love is the very nature of this universe, it is the very experience of God. That consciousness which is Parama Purusha will be experienced in human realm as love. Love is eternal. All those you love, look at what you love is Parama Purusha in so many forms. Form your attachment to the true beloved and not to the outer forms, for those forms will ultimately be the cause of suffering. But the essence in those forms is one and the same, it is Parama Purusha manifesting in the multifarious colors and forms of this manifest universe.

So pain and pleasure are to Him one and the same, the result of delusional thinking. Do you understand?

Nick: I think so. Why does the divine being allow His children to be bound by these chains?

Baba: It is the game of hide and seek. And when there are chains, there is the delight of freedom when they are broken. There is no lack of compassion. Compassion is there.
