Come Close to the Supreme

July 21, 1995

There are many, many ways in which a human being may come close to the infinite entity. Some people may prefer to take the path of gradual development, through life time upon life time of good deeds, kind actions and noble thoughts. Ever so gradually they will progress in a steady fashion towards the Supreme Nucleus. For others this slow and windy path is far, far too time consuming and they would prefer to go in a straight path, in a very direct fashion - straight to the core, straight to the source of their existence. They do not want to dillydally about looking at this, admiring that, enjoying the pain and pleasure of this manifest existence. They desire to know the Supreme Entity here and now. They say, "Oh Lord, I want to know you; I want to know you right now."

Now these people, because of the sincerity of their hearts and in their minds, can not simply wonder about speaking a few good words, doing a few good actions, thinking a few good thoughts. They will become very restless and discontent. They must pursue the sumum bonum of their human existence in a more direct fashion, and so such human beings must do sadhana; they must take the ideation of the Supreme. Otherwise they will grow very restless, very

malcontent, and eventually they will feel completely unhappy with themselves. Such people, due to the intensity of their longing of the Supreme, must direct themselves on the path of spirituality, on the path of ideation upon the Great. For such people sadhana is essential. And not only sadhana - sitting twice a day in meditation - but to observe remembrance of the Supreme each and every hour, each and every minute of one's existence, to always keep remembering: "Ah, all that is around me that I see in the colors of this world is nothing but the delightful forms of the Supreme Entity, and should I enjoy today the pleasures of this world or should I feel tomorrow the pain of this life, whatever is the circumstance, it is only the play of my Beloved taking form in the world. And who is acting, who is interacting in this magnificent play? It is the Supreme, it is my Beloved, acting through my form, through my body, through my mind. All the strengths, all the abilities, all the capacities which I have, I only have by His Grace. And even the faults and failings that I have, they come from Him, they are part of Him."

All is part of that Divine Progenitor. Each and every molecule of your existence is part of Him. All actions that you do are His actions, be they great and noble, or be they lowly. All is a part of the Supreme, and you yourself are a part of Him. So keep this remembrance of Him twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week - not six, not five, not just on Sunday - seven days a week you keep this remembrance of Parama Purus'a. And surely you will come to know Him very closely, very intimately, for you will begin to feel He is all around me each and every moment. Not only is He all around me, He is within me and in my actions He is expressing Himself. In my words He is taking form; in my thoughts He is dancing and playing and enjoying His creation. My entire existence is nothing but His expression for His delights. I have nothing which is outside of Parama Purus'a. That Supreme Progenitor is always with me, always a part of me, and I am part of Him.

So you see when a sincere sadhaka takes up the ideation upon the Great, not only twice a day in silent meditation, but twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, then this feeling begins to come. There begins to be a feeling, I am never apart from Him. He is so close to me, no one could be this close. When I breathe, He breathes with me. When I sleep, He lays besides me. When I eat, He is enjoying the food, He is in the food, and He is the one to receive the strength and the vitality of this food, so when I enjoy, I offer to Him and let Him enjoy the food also.

He is so intimate. No one can be that intimate except Parama Purus'a. He is the only one who may be that close to you. Your mother will forsake you, your family will leave you, those who are nearest and dearest will eventually be parted from you. But He will never leave you; He will never be away from you. And if you remember Him, if you call to Him, if you take continual remembrance of Him, you will find that He is always there. If you are looking at Him, thinking of Him, He is always looking at you, always thinking of you.

And when two entities look to each other, what happens? They come in contact. So like this, you may come in contact with the Supreme Being, with your the most Beloved Entity. In that contact you will come to know the sweetness of that Great Being, the magnificence of His mind, the omnipresent, omnidirectional quality and characteristic of His being. You will come to know the traits of His expression. And you will find those traits growing in you. You will find more and more compassion in you. You will find the truth is the cornerstone of your life. You will find that consciousness in you is growing. And you will find anandam, the sweetness. For He is the satchidanandam, and that satchidanandam will become yours when you go very close to Him.

So for those whose hearts long sincerely for the Supreme Entity to sit about and take a somewhat lackadaisical path will be very unsatisfying. Such people will find that such a life makes them very tired, very bored, very unhappy. They have no energy, they can not do things, they are tired all the time. Why is this? It is because their hearts are not in what they are doing; their hearts are longing to be close to the Supreme; their hearts are longing to know the infinite, to go so near that there can be no separation. And so they are not happy in this life, because they do not want name and fame and wealth and all the fine properties of this mundane existence. They want to feel the intimate closeness to Parama Purus'a.

And so what must such people do? They must take His remembrance twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and they must walk the path of spiritual sadhana. No other life can they live, for other lives will bring them nothing but sorrows, because their heart will be heavy unless they walk towards their divine desideratum.

For those of you who follow into this category, I would recommend that you take up the path of sadhana; you take up continual remembrance of the Supreme. Then surely your human existence will not be in vain, and you will find life and light within yourself. For you will feel emanations of His divine light within your own being. And that light will become the source of your energy, of your vitality; that light will become the source of your strength. So if you need strength, you get it from Him. If you need vitality, you get it from Him, not from another source. For He is the very strength within you; He is the light within your heart, within your mind; He is the brightness, the vitality, the life within you. Draw from that infinite source and you will find that you will have an endless source of nurturance for your life. Go to Him, come close to the Supreme, the Radiant Being, the very core of your existence, and there rest yourself in His infinite love.
