1.1.1 FNS
I will speak about introversial development. There are two types of development that the human beings may have. The first type is extroversial, that means development in extroverted doing of human experience, development of knowledge, of sciences, knowledge of so many different spheres of human existence. This type of knowledge is called worldly knowledge. Worldly knowledge comes in three types of knowledge. That knowledge which comes from the reading of books, the study of texts and other types of meaning experience, that knowledge which comes from direct experience in the world and that knowledge which comes from the experience of others. But in the introversial phase of human development there is only one type of knowledge, that knowledge which is acquired through one's own intuitional research. That is one's own exploration into the inner workings of one's consciousness.
There are those who feel that conscious awareness is meant for expression, but the conscious mental awareness is only the outer phase of one's existence. If that conscious awareness is directed inwardly in introversial development, then one can be aware of different layers of the mind of far more subtle and refined capacities that were not previously known to you. This awareness of these more refined capacities, more refined aspects of one's own being comes through introversial development. The this introversial development comes through the practice of intuition science that through contemplation upon the Great. When the mind takes the ideation of that which infinite, that which beyond the capacity of mind to grasp. Then mind is turned inward in a search to comprehend that which is incomprehensible. And in this search of the mind to comprehend the incomprehensible. There comes a moment of truth. In that moment mind goes beyond the limitations and expands and in that expansion may glimpse may be caught of the infinite of that which is whole, complete and ever self-resplendent, which is the birthright of every human being without exception.
So if one is to pursue the introversial development, one will have to do intuitional practices, to do meditation, to contemplate the Great. One will have to withdraw the mind from the senses, for the awareness of the environment in bring it inward to the very pinnacle of its capacity in a single pointed concentration and in that single pointed concentration direct the mind like the archer shoot the arrow towards the goal. And what is that goal? What can be the object of ideation if one is to pursue the intuitional development? The object of ideation must be something which is infinite. If it is finite, it can been contained within the mind and therefore mind need not expand, it can contain the concept and therefore it remains in the same process it has always engaged when do worldly activities. So the object of ideation in the intuitional practice must be infinite, it must be beyond the comprehension of mind. So that when mind goes to contemplate, this infinite object of ideation, it is like a salt doll which steps in the ocean to test the waters. When the salt doll goes into the ocean to test the waters, what happens? It cannot maintain its integrity in that environments and so it dissolves and becomes part and parcel of the ocean. It is likewise when the mind pursues the object of ideation with single pointed concentration and that object of ideation is infinite, is beyond the capacity of mind to comprehend. Then the mind like the salt doll gets lost in that infinite object of ideation and becomes dissolved, it becomes stunned, it can no longer perform in the way that it was previously functioned. And so it dissolves into this object of ideation which is beyond the comprehension of mind and when mind becomes dissolved, then what appears? Consciousness itself. Consciousness comes into view and that Consciousness is base of your existence.
So if you want to know the Self, if you want to know Infinite, if you want to know the very nature of your own existence, you will have to pursue the introversial development. And to pursue the introversial development you will have to take an object of ideation that is infinite. You cannot take the finite object of ideation, it must be infinite. So what can be the object of one's ideation in ones introversial phase? Contemplation of the Great, contemplation of
the very nature of one's existence. For if one asks, "who am I?" And when one thinks very deeply upon this question, one will discover that the answer is not so apparent. This "I", this little person, this "I" who identifies with so many things. Who is this "I"? This "I" is the very door key to the Infinite. It is through this little "I" that you may know the Great, that you may know that which is infinite. Because what is the very substance of this "I" feeling. I know that I exist, right, I know that I exist. Who is the knower of this "I"? Who is the one who knows that I exist. Who is that knows this? The One who knows that I exist, that knower, that is the witness of your existence. And that witness, the "I", of I know, that witnessing entity is the Atman. It is the soul. And that very soul is composed of the very same substance as the Microcosm. Always composed of one substance and what is that substance? It is pure consciousness, pure undefinable consciousness, beyond the scope the mind. And in that consciousness all dualities are resolved, all complexities disposed of. In that consciousness there is nothing but the pure awareness of existence. There is no up and down, no high and low, no life and death, no good or evil. There is only the pure blessedness of that which is undefinable, that which can be only known through direct experience. If you would like to experience this infinite consciousness you must bring the mind to single pointed concentration in the introversial phase, single concentration upon the Great, upon that which is beyond the scope of mind until the mind like the salt doll in the ocean dissolves in that medium from which it was born. And in that divine consciousness all conflicts, all pains, all suffering, all dualities, all dissolved. And only the pure light of the Self remains, only the pure awareness. So you take this time what remains out of this human life to contemplate the Great. For this is the most fruitful task that can be done in a human life. And if you put this effort fort I am sure you will get guidance and assistance in this great task. For this is the birthright of a human being to know the Infinite, to be sheltered in the arms of Infinite love, to dissolve into the ocean of pure awareness. This is the birthright of every human being.
Are there questions?
Nick: Baba, I frequently find myself
tempted by the world and by emotions and by sensory experiences
and find myself drawn away from that introversial awareness. I
wonder if you could offer some advise?
There is one thing you may do. It will
be very helpful to you. If each and every action, with each and
every experience that you have, you contemplate: Ah it is all
the Divine One coming before me in all these delightful forms
and experiences to fascinate my mind. All of this is his liila.
It is all his divine play. And in every human being with whom
I speak, in every action in which I partake in, it is him acting,
it is him speaking. The infinite consciousness, the infinite being
is in everyone, in everything, in every molecule of this Universe.
There is nothing outside of that One. So you need never loose
ideation upon the Great, you simply remember. Use remembrance
in all your daily activities, use remembrance. Remember, I am
speaking to this person, but I am not speaking to this person.
When my words are coming, they are the very sounds of the Infinite.
When the one whom I am speaking before me, it is the God himself.
It is the Divinity itself. And in every molecule, in every atom
of this existence, that Divine consciousness is expressing a delightful
play. So there is no place to be which is outside of his sphere.
Remember this and this will help you.
