1.1.2 devotion
DEVOTION
Sept. 21, 1995
The unit mind becomes attracted to the Divine Entity. When this happens, the unit mind feels a sympathetic pull and an all around attraction towards the Supreme. In this stage, the jiivatman begins to move towards the Paramatman. There need not be any preparation, any knowledge of what is to come for the path will naturally unfold before the Sadhaka. Once this attractive force is stabilized, the sadhaka will be naturally drawn towards the Supreme by this pulling or attraction. But, before this can happen, there must be the cultivation of devotion to God, otherwise, the mind is attracted to so many objects, so many experiences. It has no time to devote to ideation upon the Great. But when, through the cultivation of devotion, the mind begins to feel attraction towards the Supreme, ideation upon the Great becomes less difficult and, when this attraction reveals the brilliant light of divine effulgence in the mind of the sadhaka, then the all around pull of that magnificent entity upon the unit mind secures the human being in ideation upon the Great. For there are none who, seeing His resplendent effulgence, can turn away unaffected.
Prior samskaras may pull on the mind attracting it to other things, but if this Divine link has become established, none of those attractions will last. They may temporarily cover the mind but, due to this underlying pull, they will get burnt like the morning fog by the brilliance of the sun. There is no point in dwelling on these sanskaric interferences or conceiving of them as obstacles for, as the brilliance of Parama Purus'a has been perceived and the bonds of love established, they will be burnt in the fire of that love. So a sincere sadhaka need never be worried by temporary attractions that pull the mind this way or that way.
If the heart remains with Him, then all oey may cover the mind. It may be one day, one week or one year, but after a brief diversion, again the sadhaka will turn to their Lord for they have seen His radiant effulgence and know His beatitude in the core of their being. He exerts upon them an immutable pull which they are helpless to resist. So one whose heart is given to Parama Purus'a, who through the cult of devotion has come to know His resplendent beatitude, cannot be dragged from His arms, even by samskaras. For He exerts influence upon them whether they know it or not. So none should be afraid, "I will lose my Lord. I have been so busy with this or that." No, no, no. Not if the heart remains attached to Him. If the thoughts occasionally wander to memories of His resplendent beatitude, the covering which is being experienced will burn in the fire of love. So it is said, that those who follow the path of devotion are like the kitten being carried in the mother's mouth. They need not make efforts for the mother has picked them up and will carry them along. They need only surrender and give themselves over to her. So the kitten is with the mother, so the sadhaka, filled with devotion, who has placed themselves in the care of Parama Purus'a will also be carried by that Great Entity.
So, oh children of God,
put aside your vanity and self importance. Do pure works and remember,
you are the children of a Great Father. If you give yourself over
in self surrender to divinity, then that divine presence will
surely guide and shelter you through thick and thin for all eternity.
So take the shelter of Parama Purus'a, let down the barriers,
put aside vanity and rest in His arms.
