Svarloka and Astral Planes of Existence

April 27, 1996

I will discuss again tonight the topic of planes of cosmic expression or lokas.

Tonight I will focus on the svarloka which constitutes the imaginative realm within the cosmic mind. It is the realm of cosmic imagination and in this realm, all of the possibilities and potentialities of manifestation get created or expressed. It is the realm of creativity. All that is held in potentiality may become manifest in svarloka. It is not a causal realm, it is a realm of mental development. In this realm all of the causal planes have become solidified and the potential expression formed in maharloka become manifest within the imagination of the cosmic entity. In this realm, that which has the potential to exist gains existence. In this realm there are so many planes or worlds of every imaginable sort. If it can be imagined by the cosmic mind, it will exist in the svarloka. So all of the potential expressions of cosmic mind may be imagined as real in svarloka.

In this loka there are so many subtle types of expression. Some of them are very painful, very agonizing and others are very sweet, very enchanting, very subtle and all scope in between. There are worlds, within worlds, within worlds so that all that exists in svarloka is the imaginative expression of the potentialities created within the cosmic mind. But these imaginative expressions do not take physical form. They are subtle and astral in their expression. They do not have physical substance. So, minds that are detached from any physical expression will find expression in svarloka. All of the entities taking bodies from the microvita will find expression in svarloka. It is their cosmic habitat.

You will find places of great harmony and joy in this dimension and you will find realms of great suffering, for the imagination of the cosmic being may be as dark as it is light, as black as white, where though there is day there is night and in this realm duality is well defined. So, both the painful experiences and the joyous experiences of imaginative expression exists in this realm and many beings find their existence here in this svarloka. It is only later when they aspire to more substance that they gain expression in bhuvarloka.

But in their imaginative form, prior to the manifestation in the physical world or the cosmic mental expression, they will have their expression in svarloka. Also those beings who have evolved from the physical world may detach themselves from the physical realm and come to exist in svarloka. But if they wish to advance their existence beyond this realm, they must return to the physical world and take a human body so that they may come to an even more subtle existence. So this svarloka has many dimensions but its primary characteristic is that all of the events that occur, all of the beings that exist, all the interactions are purely mental, subtle mental interactions. There are no physical expressions, no solidified mental projections. Is it clear?

Q: Is the physical body, then necessary for liberation?

Yes, yes it is essential. Because in this realm, a being may take expression, may actually enter into an interaction with other beings in a particular imaginative flow of the cosmic mind so that they may come to one psychic realm that is very lovely, there are so many fine mental projections, but they are all whiffs and wafts of the cosmic mind. They have no substantiality, they are not significant mental projections. So there is no substance in this realm, no substantiality, so those beings in this realm can not find true fulfillment. They make contact with their minds, with their imagination, other beings. They may be able to create with their minds, so many different types of experiences, both good and ill, that is the nature of this realm. So those beings who reside in this realm will have the capacity to create varying types of experiences for themselves and for others but they do not have the capacity to have a solidified form which can function in the substantial nature which the cosmic mental projection allows. Therefore though they may create the most lovely heaven or they may eat ice cream 24 hours a day, even though they eat it 24 hours a day, the stomach is never full, the craving is still there, for it is only imaginative ice cream and the desire comes in the mind eventually that "I want real ice cream. I want ice cream that I can taste with the tongue, that will fill my stomach." So when this desire comes, that being will not stay in svarloka, they will move into the more solidified projection taking upon themselves the five fundamental factors. They will manifest in the physical world, in bhuvarloka.

Now, let us say a being attains to the svarloka after their departure from the physical world. Let us say they are a very fine singer. So they gain one body composed of microvita and they enter into a realm where they are with other beings who are all very beautiful singers and there is so much beautiful music and they dance with their imaginative capacities, imagining the most exquisite harmonies and music and they play them in their imaginative flow and they enjoy them very much. But they know that it is only imaginative, and sooner or later the desire comes that there should be substantiality in their music and so again the physical birth is taken. But until the physical birth is taken, it is impossible for them to advance to a more subtle level because the imagination can only express what it thus far has developed. So they may be able to imagine Mozart, but they cannot imagine Brahms for they have never experienced Brahms. When they go to the physical realm, then they can imagine it. So you see, there are limits to this imaginative world for the unit beings who reside in it. But for the cosmic entity, there are no limitations. Whatever has been a potential within his cosmic dreams, he may now manifest in imaginative form. But for those unit beings who he has imagined in this realm of svarloka, they are not able to go beyond the realm of this imagination.

So let us say there is one person who wants to do sadhana in this realm, in svarloka. They may imagine they are doing sadhana but there is no force in their sadhana, they can only imagine. If they want to move ahead, they will have to return to the physical sphere and take a body to manifest their desires. In this way, they can move beyond this realm of imagination into the pure expression of cosmic love. Alright?

Q: When a person bilocates, one body is in the physical realm but where is the other body?

This is a very good question. When a person bilocates, they make for themselves one imaginative body and that body takes the qualities and characteristics of svarloka, normally. But in certain instances, it may actually exist in bhuvarloka. Now, if it is a purely astral body it may take a good likeness and the person may stand in front of another person and they may speak to them with their mind. That other person may see the form, hear the voice but the body is created in svarloka. But on occasion, one who is bilocating and has a significant ability, may create a second body utilizing temporary configurations of the five fundamental factors and they will actually have a physical body of a temporary nature. They may successfully speak with the mouth, and all that they do may be substantial. They may even pick up the glass, and touch the person and give answers because the body is a temporary manifestation of the five fundamental factors. But for this, a person must be very highly evolved. It is a very rare capacity in normal circumstances. If a person is bilocating, they will use the astral body instead. It may stand in front of you and talk to you but you will see that it is not substantial.

 Q: ?

Yes, yes. It is not substantial and no astral body may attack the physical world. They cannot pick up a cup for they are astrally existing in svarloka, not in bhuvarloka. But in certain circumstances, a person bilocating will create a double that will exist in bhuvarloka. It may be done but it requires significant energies to maintain the integrity of five factors for a temporary period for it goes against the laws of Prakriti and so you will find it is rarely done, only in certain unusual circumstances where the benefit makes the breaking of laws of Prakriti for a short time acceptable, alright?

 Q: ?

Lokas are expressions of the cosmic mind, dimensions of expressions, planes of expression, worlds of comic expression. Now, in this samadhi state, one does not enter the expressed manifestation, one attempts to blend the mental stuff of the unit mind, your individual mind, into the cosmic mind and so there is not a blending into the expression but into the mental faculties. So there is a merging of kosas so you are moving within the faculty of cosmic mind, not the realm of cosmic expression. So under normal circumstances, when doing sadhana and entering into more subtle spheres, these are direct experiences of the cosmic mind, not of the world which cosmic mind creates. So that you may touch the hiranyamaya kosa and in that kosa you will find great blessing but you will not experience the expressions of hiranyamaya kosa. You will experience the cosmic mind in that sphere.

Q: For every planet and star in this bhurloka, is there a corresponding object in svarloka?

Yes, it is true. You see, it is held in potentiality, then it is imagined by the cosmic mind, and then it occurs in the cosmic mental projection so every expression in the comic mental projection has a resonant base or echo from which it has arisen. It has a seed in the imaginative projection, which has a seed in the realm of potentiality. There is no expression in the physical world which does not exist in the mental world. All that is in bhurloka exists in bhuvarloka. All that is in bhuvarloka exists in svarloka. And all that is in svarloka exists in maharloka. So all the potentialities become imaginative expressions, become mental expression, become physical expressions.

But likewise, if the unit being in its imagination creates another world, that world of imaginative play may be expressed in svarloka within the dreams of the human mind when it has no physical structure But it will not be expressed in bhuvarloka unless there is association with a physical body. Likewise, there may be association with a physical body and the mental expression in bhuvarloka and bhurloka, but that expression will have a kind of imaginative expression from which it takes its existence.

Now you may wonder there are so many possibilities and potentialities, do they all come to exist? This is a very relative expression. I would say they all have the potential to exist. They may or may not be imagined and thus they may or may not come to exist in the cosmic mental projection. Alright?
